Investing in People: Opening Doors for Young Talent

Leaving school is an exciting milestone, but for many young people, the leap from classroom to career can feel overwhelming. At Conister Bank, we understand that this transition is a pivotal moment, especially in September, when school leavers are deciding whether further education or entering the workplace is right for them.
Sometimes, real-life work experience can provide the clarity and confidence a young adult needs to make their next move. That’s why we offered a one-off marketing internship this autumn, designed to give hands-on exposure to the professional world.
As a team that prides itself on being like a family, we love creating opportunities for our colleagues’ friends and family. This internship was shared internally, and we were thrilled to welcome Lola Bass as Conister Bank’s Marketing Intern.
When Lola completed her A Levels earlier this year, she faced the age-old question: what’s next? As a professional horse riding competitor, Lola is no stranger to discipline and focus, but stepping into the working world was a whole new challenge.
From day one, Lola brought energy and fresh ideas to our Marketing Team, contributing to campaigns and communications while learning how businesses connect with people. Her creativity and thoughtful approach made a real impact.
Lola later extended her time with us and joined our Operations Team, gaining insight into customer service and how businesses deliver exceptional experiences. This hands-on experience gave her a unique perspective across two areas of our business.
As Lola explains:
“Working with Conister Bank this autumn has given me real insight into what the working world looks like. Balancing my commitments to sport alongside my interest in different subjects, it was important for me to gain experience before making any big decisions about my future. Marketing, and then Operations, gave me the chance to be creative and understand how businesses connect with people and it’s been a great learning curve.”
At Conister, we believe that when young people thrive, our community thrives. Lola’s journey is a great example of how short-term internships can help school leavers explore what inspires them beyond the traditional school-to-university route.
Thank you for all your hard work, Lola. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
