His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Visits Conister Bank

Conister Bank was delighted to welcome His Excellency Sir John Lorimer, Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man, to its headquarters at Clarendon House on Thursday 8 October 2026.

His Excellency had expressed an interest in visiting the Bank to meet colleagues and learn more about the business, its history and the role it plays in supporting customers, businesses and the wider economy.

As The King’s personal representative on the Isle of Man, the Lieutenant Governor plays an important constitutional, ceremonial and community role, supporting organisations and charities across the Island and promoting the wellbeing of its people. Conister Bank was therefore proud to welcome His Excellency and share how the Bank contributes to the Island’s economy, serves the local community and supports customers and businesses.

During the visit, His Excellency met Douglas Grant, Group CEO of Manx Financial Group and Managing Director of Conister Bank, who provided an overview of the Bank’s heritage, operations and future ambitions.

The discussion highlighted Conister Bank’s position as one of the Isle of Man’s longest established financial institutions, with a history spanning more than 90 years. It also covered the Bank’s operations across the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom, including its lending, savings and structured finance activities.

His Excellency took the time to walk around the office, meeting and speaking with colleagues from across the Bank. The tour included a light-hearted exchange with the Compliance team and an opportunity to sit with the Isle of Man Sales team to learn more about the local market and how Conister combines personal relationships with good, old-fashioned customer service.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss Conister Bank’s Customer First approach. This places customer needs at the centre of the business and recognises that having the right people in the right roles is essential to achieving positive customer outcomes.

Looking to the future, Douglas Grant shared the Bank’s wider growth and innovation plans and its ambition to continue delivering responsible, sustainable growth for customers and the communities it serves.

Douglas Grant said:

“We were honoured to welcome His Excellency to Conister Bank and to introduce him to colleagues from across the business. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to share our history, explain the work we do today and discuss our ambitions for the future.

“Conister has been part of Island life for more than 90 years, and while we continue to grow and evolve, our customers and our people remain at the heart of everything we do. Working at Conister is about much more than having a job in banking. It is about being part of a great team that works together to make things happen. His Excellency certainly got into the Conister spirit, and if he ever fancies a career change, we would be delighted to have him on the team.”

The visit wrapped up in Conister Bank’s newly refurbished banking hall, where His Excellency spent time chatting with our front of house team. Teagan and Jack showed him the ropes and gave him a glimpse of how they look after customers every day. It was a fitting end to a warm and memorable visit.

Thank you to His Excellency for taking the time to visit, meet our people and learn more about Conister Bank. 💜
