Conister Bank’s Response to the IoM Climate Change Plan 2022-27:

Just Transition & Green Finance

Changes required to meet net-zero will benefit some more than others. By ensuring that a positive social impact is integral to our sustainability strategy and the transition towards a net zero economy we are financing a just transition, that meets negative impacts and inequality head-on.

As the Isle of Man's community bank, ensuring positive social impact sits at the heart of what we do. We are continuously improving our social impact and integrate it in our business operations through our ESG strategy and framework. We firmly believe it is our responsibility to support our customers, our community and our colleagues in the transition to net-zero.

“The most significant contribution we can make to tackling climate change is financing the transition to net-zero” Douglas Grant – Managing Director – Conister Bank

We are committed to continuing to provide our green finance, supporting local sustainable and renewable sectors, and facilitating an affordable transition to a low-carbon economy. We believe green finance provides the key to unlocking our sustainable future.

Sustainable Business

Businesses play a key role in creating a successful and sustainable economy. By reducing the carbon footprint of their services and being more sustainable, businesses can help their customers and stakeholders reduce their impact on the planet too.

We have already taken big steps in reducing our carbon footprint and being a sustainable business.   Over the past year we:

1.       Conducted our first carbon footprint assessment to identify key contributors to our emissions.

2.       Implemented carbon reduction targets based on the Science-based Targets Initiative – a globally aligned carbon reduction initiative aimed at keeping global warming to well below 1.5 degrees in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement.

3.       Aligned our sustainability approach with internationally recognised standards and frameworks - United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), United Nations Principles of Responsible Banking (UN PRB), and the Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

We believe embracing sustainability is critical to maintaining our financial security and minimising environmental and economic risks ahead. By delivering a sustainable Island we will be delivering a successful and resilient Island for the future.

We are driving positive change, financing a successful transition to net zero.
