The 14 March marked a special milestone as Matthew Luckins, our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), celebrates his 10 years of service at Conister Bank.
Matthew joined the business in 2016 as an IT Network Engineer and has since played a key role in shaping how the Bank approaches security, risk, and resilience. His career progression reflects both the pace of change in the technology landscape and the growing importance of information security within the organisation.
Building Strong Foundations
Matthew joined our team as an IT Network Engineer, at a time when the organisation was evolving quickly.
Reflecting on those early days, Matthew recalls:
“In 2016, security was very much about perimeter controls, on‑prem infrastructure, and building visibility over risks that had grown alongside the business.”
He recalls an environment that encouraged responsibility and challenge from the outset:
“There was a strong sense of trust and ambition. People were encouraged to take ownership, question existing approaches, and improve things where they could. That made it a place where I felt I could develop and contribute over the long term.”
A Decade of Digital Defence
Over the past ten years, Matthew’s role has evolved alongside the organisation, helping to shift security to a more risk‑based and people‑centric approach.
“Over time, we’ve embedded security into decision‑making, culture, and day‑to‑day operations,” Matthew explains.
This shift reflects wider changes across the industry:
“Threats are more sophisticated now, and AI and automation have changed both how attacks happen and how we defend against them.”
Looking Ahead with Confidence
As the digital and regulatory landscape continues to evolve, Matthew sees pace of change as both the challenge and the opportunity:
“The threat landscape is evolving faster than ever, and this speed of change will remain the biggest challenge,” Matthew explains. “These new and emerging threats present huge opportunities to keep learning and further improving our efficiency. I’m excited for that.”
Congratulations on a brilliant 10 years, Matthew - here’s to the next chapter!
