September marks a special milestone as Sam Sleight celebrates 10 years with Conister Bank.
Joining the Bank in 2016 following his graduation from university, Sam has built a career shaped by curiosity, continuous development, and a desire to improve the way the business works. Over the past decade, he has progressed from Accounts Assistant to Senior BI Developer, playing an important role in helping teams access the information and insights they need to make informed decisions.
A Career Built on Growth and Opportunity
Sam's career has evolved alongside the growth of the Group itself. Starting within the Finance team, he quickly found opportunities to combine his analytical mindset with a passion for improving processes and embracing new technology.
Reflecting on his journey, Sam said:
“I initially joined the Bank in 2016 as an Accounts Assistant, supporting the wider business with reconciliations, invoicing, and other finance activities.”
As his experience grew, so did his responsibilities. Over the years, he contributed to a range of projects focused on increasing efficiency, streamlining processes, and supporting the Bank's continued development.
“I was able to apply my technical and analytical skills to help transform and automate processes. During this time, I contributed to the implementation of a variety of projects that improved efficiency and supported the continued growth of the Group.”
Helping Shape a More Data-Driven Business
One of the defining moments in Sam's career came as the organisation's need for reporting, insights, and data-led decision making became increasingly important.
Recognising an opportunity to make a different kind of contribution, Sam transitioned into a dedicated data-focused role, combining his understanding of the business with his technical expertise to help develop new reporting capabilities.
“As the business expanded, I recognised an increasing demand for data, reporting, and meaningful insights to support decision-making across the organisation. It became clear to me that this was where I could have the greatest impact by combining my business knowledge and technical skills.”
Today, his work supports colleagues across the business by helping turn information into insight, while also driving greater automation and efficiency.
A Collaborative Culture
When asked what has made his decade with Conister so rewarding, Sam points first to the people he has worked alongside.
“One thing I noticed very early on was how the community-focused values of the Bank are reflected in its people. Colleagues from all areas of the business work together collaboratively, sharing knowledge and supporting one another to achieve mutual success.”
He believes that culture of support has been central not only to his own development, but also to the Bank's success more broadly.
“I've been encouraged to continually learn, take on new challenges, and develop new skills, which has enabled me to progress both professionally and personally over the last 10 years.”
Looking Ahead
During his time with the Group, Sam has witnessed significant technological change, from legacy processes to increasingly sophisticated, scalable, and data-driven solutions. It's a transformation he has enjoyed helping to shape.
Looking ahead, he sees even greater opportunities for technology and data to support colleagues, customers, and the continued evolution of the business.
“Being part of the Group's continued evolution as we modernise our technology landscape and support the launch of new products and services is what excites me most. Being part of that journey and helping to build the foundations for the future is something I find genuinely motivating.”
Thank you, Sam, for your contribution over the last decade. Your commitment to continuous improvement has helped shape the business we are today.
Congratulations on reaching this milestone, and here's to the next chapter!
